Joystick AC power faliure?

Is it just me or are the new AC power adapters a little fail? a quote from this thread https://vexforum.com/t/answered-joystick-power-adapter-at-competition/18875/1

Now I thoroughly agree with what he’s saying here and hate running on batteries while I program (wondering why I can’t put my VEXnet key in my laptop but that’s a for a later day I guess).
Heres my problem how does this help the situation at all if the power is delivered by the serial port, if it takes up my serial port then I can’t program!

Is there something I’m missing like a secret way to plug in a programming cable into the AC adapter so I can power and program that was left off the product page?

if you really want to you could tether for downloading, but that does make it somewhat annoying

Hopefully they’ll release the downloading cable that powers the joystick soon…

that along with the vexnet that doesnt drop out while downloading or give you memory write errors every few times

Haha. Programming with ROBOTC hasn’t given us many problems with disconnecting, as long as the robot is close to the joystick when downloading (a couple of yards, maybe). But we have had a problem with ROBOTC crashing constantly. Well, not exactly crashing but freezing. We’ll click the download button and the downloading bar will pop up, and then ROBOTC freezes. We have to forcefully power the laptop down (holding the power button), or wait for 15 minutes after clicking the ‘X’ to close ROBOTC, and then try running it again.

Not sure if anyone else has had this issue, and I know it’s off topic, but it still is a problem. :stuck_out_tongue:

And I’m still anxious for the new downloading cable, new firmware, new encoders, and getting my hands on the 2.75" double-roller omni wheels, and Gyroscopic sensor.

easy c occasionally freezes when we are downloading. i actually got BSOD from the downloader freezing… and to not get vexnet to drop while downloading it usually takes us being the only robot turned on in the room.

We usually have 2-3 robots turned on in the same room, and do have occasional VEXnet drop-outs, but we don’t get them very often.

we can download with 2 or 3, but when we get all 6 its almost a given that it will drop sooner than if less are present. less interference i guess.
