Dang. Karthik is basically the figurehead of VEX. He runs all the ceremonies, this forum, and much more. It’s hard to imagine where VEX will go without Karthik. There are so many questions. Who will run the Q&A? Who’s taking over the lead of the GDC? How will world’s be run? What about future games? I’ll definitely miss Karthik and I regret never being able to meet him.

:’)
I’m sure you’ll still find an opportunity to meet him at some point.
And I’m sure VEX/IFI will announce plans going forward for everything you mentioned when they feel it best. However, I don’t see why Worlds would be run much differently at all.
As for worlds being run differently, I am mostly referring to the role Karthik had in being VEX’s “figurehead”
I was joking, we love you Karthik. Always will be missed.
Is this for real? Where was this announcement posted? Which Facebook page?
Its for real. Karthik posted it on his personal Facebook page.
First off, does anyone know why Karthik is leaving, other than he wants a change? Karthik is basically everything VEX. Whenever I think of VEX, I think of Karthik along with it. I didn’t even get a chance to meet him VEX has changed my life in so many ways, I’ve made so many new friends, learned countless things about engineering, programming, and life in general, and I really thank all the people that have worked so hard to make VEX such a great educational program, especially Karthik, sir. I hope you have great success wherever you decide to go(even though I’m no one to be able to say that anyway), and I want to say that we will all definitely miss you. I can speak confidently for everyone on the Forum, we will all miss you sir.
Oh yeah, one last question. Will you be attending Worlds 2018?
he left without revealing V5…

wait why did karthik delete his post
Paul Copioli commented on Karthik’s post and said that he would personally make sure that Karthik made it to VEX Worlds for years to come.
Like many of the initial reactions that have been posted here, I was shocked to hear this news when we as a company were informed two weeks ago. We ourselves asked many of the same questions that I’ve seen here. Most of which, I cannot answer, simply because I don’t know the answer yet.
What I do know, is that the show will go on, and the individual that “replaces” Karthik will have some very big shoes to fill. I’ll continue the regular day-to-day monitoring and moderation of the forums. And as far as Q&A’s go, your questions will still be answered in as timely a fashion as possible. Please bear with us over the coming days as we transition that responsibility onto a different member(s) of the GDC.
On a personal note, ever since I first met Karthik while competing at my first VEX Worlds in 2009, I’ve looked up to him as a role model. A caring and compassionate professional in every sense of the word, his enthusiastic, and thought-provoking mentality is the kind that everyone should strive to emulate. Seriously, if you’ve never watched his TED Talk, go do it.
Getting to know him a bit more over the coming years, and being able to work (albeit mainly electronically) alongside him at VEX for the past two has been absolutely amazing. From the bottom of my heart, thank you Karthik for everything you’ve done for this company over the past 9 years. We would undoubtedly be nowhere near where we are today without you, and your passion to creating the leaders of tomorrow. You will be greatly missed.
Karthik was one of the few people who I couldn’t manage to meet at Worlds, but I wanted to say that even though I’ve never met you in person, you will be sorely missed. Thank you for driving VEX, giving all of us these amazing opportunities, making it what it is today. I’ve devoted so much of my time in these last three years to VEX Robotics that I think it’s safe to say that you made a lasting impact on my life, that is to say, you’ve changed my life considerably for the better.
So, thank you, Karthik, and for what it’s worth, I wish you well in all of your future endeavors.
Thanks, Karthik for shaping Vex and good luck in your future ventures. You have the potential to change the world, so this transition is a good one for you. One must grow and learn in life in order to achieve personal satisfaction. Sometimes when jobs get routine and you’re finished learning and finished teaching, it’s time to move on. It is hard because it is a very comfotable place, but it takes courage and i admire and commend you for that. You have great things ahead of you and you will look back and be very happy that you made this decision.
For those of us left behind: there will not be another Karthik. We will all be disappointed (especially the person or people that replace him) if we expect a Karthik clone. Whoever replaces him will shape the future in his or her own way. I have gone through changes many times with customers and coworkers. One thing i can guarantee is that the next person that comes along is nothing like the last person. However, they always bring something new, a new twist, a unique vision and approach. And that’s OK. Things will continue, they may be different but all will be well!
Trust the future.
Wow. All I have to say is Thanks Karthik, much like everyone else who has posted, I can’t believe you will be gone. I’m sure everyone will miss poking fun at you through the forum. (just kidding. ) Your drive at Worlds has really amazed me, and your announcing is something I have always looked forward to for the 3 consecutive years i’ve been lucky enough to attend. I can’t wait to see what vex has in store, and I know everyone will be stoked if you can continue to attend #VexWorlds
As far as meeting you, you were in the MS Spirit division during one or two Starstruck matches, so I could’ve met you, but me being me, was too chicken to come up and say hey… I hope I will get another chance, and maybe this time I will actually have the guts to get up and say hi.
Karthik provided a safe space for nerds. Wherever he goes next, I hope he does it again. We nerds will follow.
You can count on that!
I will miss those skinny jeans ;(
I am on his instagram account though so #neverForghetti
I was fortunate to meet him on a few occasions and he is one of the few people that can make you feel good about yourself no matter what.
Hope your future goes well Karthick. You wont be forgotten here.
