Laser CNC for milling lexan

Hi there–

I appreciate if you can share your successful application of laser CNC to mill lexan. We are planning for the new season and would like to make an investment in CNC this year.

Thanks!

We have a laser/cutter engraver that we use for cutting custom parts. Lexan is unsafe to cut with a laser because it produces toxic fumes. It can however be safely cut with a CNC router. If you do use a laser Delrin is a better choice, and is still competition legal.

do you want laser cutter recommendations or cnc recommendations, they are 2 different tools. CNC machines done need exhausts, can cut all the types of plastic and are what our team primarily uses so ill speak for that, however we are getting a glow forge to my knowledge (could be wrong).

On to the CNC and my actual recommendations

first off is just whatever shapeoko fits your budget. These are good machines that we use often

I haven’t used omio but I’ve heard good things. You may look into that.

Thanks @Liam_5405 on recommendation. We bought this inexpensive machine (about $300) recommended by another thread and never successful. The machine melts edge of the shape when we try to cut (Lexan so far) at various combinations of speed and bits after 4 months of trying. So we are not sure if CNC router is the right avenue to invest (we have budget up to $3K for this). Appreciate the discussion
