Laser cutting non shattering plastic

Does anyone know a good power and speed level to do this at. I have tried doing it and the plastic has started burning

If I’m correct polycarbonate and other mon-shattering plastics should not be laser cut due to the gas emit by it and the flame. A bandsaw is probably your best bet

I doubt many people have laser cut lexan before, because of the unsafe gas that is produced (mentioned by @Doctortictac). Because of this, I would be surprised if anyone knows what power and speed works well, and I would also recommend using a bandsaw. With that said, if you want to use the laser to engrave something (which can not be done with a bandsaw), you should be fine if you bring the laser cutter outside.

You can also select a different plastic besides polycarbonate from the legal plastics list.

CNC or Milling Machine is a better option for polycarb.

Only industrial lasers with proper ventilation have the ability to cut polycarb safely.
We have worked with a local machine shop to cut polycarb but usually it is not worth the effort unless you need to cut a lot of polycarb quickly.

Yeah, if I where you I’d just use some scissors tbh, if you try to Lazer cut it the gasses will be in bearable
