LDraw parts for VEX IQ

#21

Thanks for this, Philo and Chris!! Ummm, one more question. Once you get something documented in MLCad how easy is it to share the file? Would that be the use for LPub?

Timdreamer… it is very easy to share a raw MLCad file in a few different file types and even as a simple .txt file. Modeling within MLCad can be easy or more involved as some creations can be complex requiring a lot of building steps and even sub-models compiling larger sections of one model. Once a model is CAD’ed it can be processed through different routes of different programs to produce varying-quality building instructions. Or, BIs can be produced from MLCad itself. LPub is a great method. LDView is another. Or, combinations of programs can please personal prefs. There is a lot of info out there that can help. A good place with a lot is… http://www.holly-wood.it/index-en.html

Thank You Philo! Please, continue…I need the chain/track cogs pretty bad, but I’m not in a hurry or demanding anything from you! If I only had a Brain part…haha. I like your Parts-Tree Category note…I forgot about that when I was making my write-up and it would really help with grouped-names like your VEX conversions! Though, I do like arranging the order for displaying parts in the Favorites list.

Question: Is the 4-pin H-shaped Black Connector in VEX’s STEP parts library?

#26

HUGE thanks to Philo and I’m just about finished CAD’ing my bot. The 10mm pulley wheels are not yet done so I had to improvise. Do you have a timeline on the VEX IQ brain? No rush, just thought I’d ask

The brain will be the next one - perhaps I’ll release it as a partial mockup to speed up things. Hopefully next week, probably with one or two sensors.

Question: Is the 4-pin H-shaped Black Connector in VEX’s STEP parts library?

I have not found it yet - could someone confirm its part number, I don’t have it at hand. Anyway it’s easy to do from scratch.

Awesome, even a shell with the connection points would be fantastic

I found this funny. No one else in the world can say what Philo said, and still have it be true.

Thanks Philo
Steve

I mean, I have already created a lot of subparts for the other similar connectors, this one is just a matter of assembling them properly (so the “from scratch” is quite excessive!).
Otherwise, the next release will also include the wormscrew, I needed it to send it to Sergio so that the mechanical simulator of SR3D builder works with it (you can try it with the other gears, it works fine).

#32

Thanks for all you are doing, Philo. I wouldn’t know up from down with these programs… LoL.

The H-Connector is partnumber VEX 220.

The photo will not stick here. The H-connector is the 5-hole square black one with 4-pins…like the same one with only 2-pins.

#34

OK, I am sure now I don’t have the .step 3D model.

Yes, I know what you mean. I wondered why I didn’t found it with other connectors, but it could have been placed elsewhere…

#35

Thanks for pointing that out - it had been accidentally omitted from the CAD release package.

Philo, don’t worry about creating it from scratch! P/N 228-2500-220, the Worm Bracket (black 4-pin H-shaped connector) is now in the Corner Connectors, All Connectors, and All Parts ZIP files on the VEX IQ CAD Downloads page. Apologies for the inconvenience.

#36

Perfect! part is done and will be in next release.
So it is a worm bracket… explains why it appears only in gear kit! Grant, would you have a usage example photo?

This is a post where Art shows some pics of the worm bracket in use. Hope this helps!

#38

It does, thanks

#39

Not a problem. Always glad to help where I can.

MLCad is free, SR3D has a free and paid version. The free version has everything you need, the paid version even more
