left wheel motors will not work on three chassis'

I am a classroom teacher that has 15 Vex IQ kits. My students have successfully built their chassis’, I have updated all the firmware, and most have been successful. However, I have three that have an error. The left front wheel motor (plugged into port 1) won’t work. I have tried switching brains, motors, cables, and ports. When I switch to port 6, then the right wheel won’t work. Also, on these three brains, the following error occurs (even though they are fully updated-according to Vex IQ Firmware Update):
Update Needed:
1 7
2 8
3 9
4 10
5 11
6 12

Please help. Mys students cannot continue to build their robots without working chassis’!

Hi Mokarlin,

We’re sorry that you are having this problem. To help resolve this issue, we have a few questions to help identify what might be causing this. When you tried switching Robot Brains, motors, and cables, was there a specific pattern to how things did not work as expected? For example, did the problem follow a specific motor (e.g. was a specific motor always unresponsive regardless of what Robot Brain port it was plugged into?) or did the problem follow a specific Robot Brain (e.g. was every motor plugged into Port 1 on a specific Robot Brain unresponsive, even through they are confirmed to work on other ports or other Robot Brains?).

If you are having the first issue (a specific motor is unresponsive regardless of what port or Robot Brain it’s on), re-installing the Smart Motor firmware should resolve the problem. To do this, please remove all other motors and sensors from a Robot Brain. Turn off the Robot Brain and connect the motor in question to Port 1. Connect the Robot Brain to your computer and open the VEX IQ Firmware Update Utility. When there is only one motor or sensor connected to the Robot Brain on Port 1, the Firmware Update Utility attempts to force re-install the firmware on that device.

If you are having the latter issue (a specific Port on a specific Robot Brain is always unresponsive), or if re-installing the firmware on the motor did not resolve the problem, then please contact VEX Technical Support at [email protected] or by calling +1-903-453-0802 so we can provide additional assistance to resolve this problem.
