Lift and claw with one motor?

Ok so we’re trying to make a lift and something to grab the mobile goals with one motor since we only have space for that many. Any suggestions?

one motor for either task is trivial, but sharing a single motor between both might be difficult. If you have pneumatics, those work very well for clamping onto goals.

you could also have some sort of passive goal grabbing device, such as a forklift, although those seem to be significantly less effective than an active clamping mechanism.

Yea that’s the problem our coach doesn’t want to use pneumatics we have to come up with an idea on what to do

what is your current motor distribution?

convince your coach to let you use pneumatics.
more seriously though, if you have >4m on your drive train, take one off and put it on the claw. you’re better off doing that than coming up with some wack lift/claw design that barely works

2m lift for mobile goal
1m hook for mobile goal
4 motor drive
We have a 1 motor lever mechanism where it pulls back on the mobile goal but we want to add something where it puts it on the platform

why is your lift 2 motors; if its only lifting a single mobile goal, 1 motor has more than enough power

is this just a lift to carry the goals around, or is it a lift to bring the goals up to the platform? either way, it doesn’t need 2 motors. you can steal one no problem.

the hook you mention as well might be not worth a motor, but I’m not really sure what that is. Is it like a wing that can grab the underside of a goal and drag it around?

So the hook is something that hooks on underneath the mobile goal and drags it around and can let go when ever they want and the mobile goal lift is just to carry it around but when we decide to go on the platform we can bring it along

best place to take a motor from would be your goal lift. Use it for a 4 bar or something to lift goals up and onto the platform, if that’s what you want to do.

Can’t you just use something like NXS did in their robot reveal?

This allows you to only use 1 motor, but is it because some have tried it and it doesn’t work well?

it works, but matches so far have proven passive forklifts to be less effective than an active grabber.
