so i’ve been trying to think of some different hanging mechanisms for our bot.
the problem is, they mainly work around the sliders which i just cant quite wrap my mind around how to extend and retract them.
please explain how i can!!!

use a chain elivator like this one:

or you can use just a single stage like this one:
OMG i can’t beleieve this. i’m actually working on a screw actuator. i got some pic of the process so far it will be chain driven which will turn a stationary 1/4 all thread. a 1/4 brass sleeve round and hollow will be inserted into a 1/4 sq hollow stocka 1/4 square nut has been machined down to fit insside the square stock and is going to be soldered to the round stock. now when the motor turns the square stock allows the round shaft to extend by holding the square nut in place. so it can grow nearly double it’s starting size. now if it all works it will cost less than 10$ to build 2 5" ones. i’m hoing it is going to work. this happened to start out when i was feeling bummed about my uv’s but i have a friend who is a machinest working on that he thought it would be cool challenge to work on and plus he thinks my bots are fun to play with anyway back on task. will post pics when i get home have fun!!!
i just made a bot that can hang only using the starter kit, gearkit, and an omini wheel kit and it really does hang it looks kinda like this
note i am not particepating in first this is just my idea of hanging only using the starter kit and a couple of asseceries
These following two pages show two robots that I’ve built that use linear slide mechanisms. The first one is a single stage elevator built out of only “regular” Vex parts, the second is double stage and uses the linear slides available from VexLABS. The mechanisms themselves are discussed in length on the these links are well.

Hi I am kinda of a noob when it comes to the mechanics and assembley so I came here for help. I want to establish slider on the sides or bottom of my bot and I need to figure out what I need to extend and retract these sliders and possibly go up and down like the Vex Challenge Demo( the fat red bot that lifted the softballs up http://www.vexrobotics.com/animation/index.shtml . So anyways if you have any suggestions or pics that may be helpful please share with me your ideas.
Thx alot!

This link should also help you with your question about the single-stage elevator.
