I am interested in having live video at our upcoming event (not really interested in LiveStreaming it beyond our building). I had hoped to have one camera per field (two total) and was planning on using GoPro’s for the video. I’m using a Hero3+. Today I was messing around with it and didn’t have very good results. I was able to get the GoPro to LiveStream to my iOS device, but I couldn’t get it to connect to my PC, so I couldn’t use the tournament manager overlay feature.
I have seen some of the other forums about LiveStreaming, and while they were helpful, I didn’t get enough information to make it work for me. It might have been my camera, but I thought it would be easier to do than it’s turning out.
Does anyone have any advice for high quality video without buying much equipment? Any suggestions for specific cameras?
Can I have a feed for each field and switch back and forth for the matches?
You need a micro HDMI to HDMI for the GoPros. Your also going to need some type of video switcher (because tournament manager doesn’t have one). The GoPros should go in to the switcher than out of the switcher to tournament manager’s display.
P.S. I have never run a LiveStream before, but from my experience with other video projects this is what I would recommend.
Definitely look into Open Broadcaster Software if you want live stream of video, it supports chroma key for the overlay, multiple video inputs, etc.
I would also recommend using OBS. You can right click on the stream preview and select show on monitor 2 which would go to a projector. You can also archive it to a file and stream it to the internet very easily.
For cameras, we are attempting to use USB webcams with 50" active USB cables. Your gopro + hdmi cable should give better results but you would need an hdmi input card for the computer.
Normally you NEVER want to use wireless for video equipment. There is a chance it will drop and such. The place that I work runs gopros to hdmi to hdmi-sdi converters and sdi to our video rack.
I tried OBS, but couldn’t get it to recognize my GoPro or my Canon Cam. I’m guessing it’s because I was trying to use a USB cable and not an HDMI.
Any suggestion for a affordable switcher?
