i think that a very effective combination at worlds will be a bot that can controll the movable bases and put them in the ladder, allianced with a fast bot that can score and descore the wall posts quickly and efficiently. im not completely sold on the idea on climbing tho… unless a bot can hang quickly and efficiently for instance team 1103, i think lot of hang will be blocked/pushed off the ladder. any experiences seeing bots being pushed off the ladder???
team 1103 was knocked off the ladder towards the end of a match
i also agree that the strategy of controlling moveable goals will be very effective. this is especially effective if autonomous were to be tied and the moveable goals blocked the climbing positions. the 5 goals in the middle would in most cases have more points scored than the wall goals.
besides 1103 getting pushed off the ladder has anyone seen this happen often?
has anybody seen robots that can seem to withstand any amount of ramming while they are attempting a high hand? it will be interesting at worlds how far they will let you go as far as ramming and where they will draw the line bewteen ramming and intaglement. i think how far the refs let you go will greatly effect how succesful climbing is at worlds
Well, you can’t assume that one team will own all 5 goals. In game conditions are never perfect, so anything could happen. Also, for blocking hanging, if you can hang within around 10s of getting to the right side, it’s almost impossible for a team to notice and respond in time.
If you know the other team is going to ladder your tubes, try knocking over your own stacks.
ANY properly built robot can withstand allowed “ramming”
just dont move (so you dont trip your breakers) and escape when their breakers trip, or find an opening to escape…
if they are a dedicated “ram” bot, wait until they pin you to a wall for 5 seconds and then they let you go
i NEVER risk my drive motors from burning out so i generally never push back
and later in the match i see them with only one side of the drive working (i wonder why…)
in our last tournament we out all five moveable goals under the ladder whenever we wanted to during the tournament and we controlled all of them with time to worry about the wall goals also. therefore it is very possible to control all 5 goals.
yes, i also restrain from running my motors wen being pinned… but when a bot is climbing i think that we will see a lot of bot being pushed down. with a good enough coach watch i think that you can identify and disturb their lift enough by ramming them to disable a lot of hangs

fighting a pin from a stronger bot is a bad idea. at which point is knocking bots off the ladder considered illegal? and yes climbing can be blocked with the goals being moved. its easier than sitting there with your bot and guarding the ladder. if nothing else trying to move the goal away from the ladder to climb wastes time that can be used for scoring.

I don’t think that hanging is as ideal as it is made up to be. Scoring 4 tubes on one post in like 5-10 seconds is just as many points as a high hang. Unless the robot can hang faster or as fast as that, there isn’t much point in blocking them unless you have a “push other people around bot”
I mean, how fast can people hang usually?
Titan (team 1103) at Nationals could High-Hang from ground and arm down to High-Hang in just around 7 seconds. He can High-Hang autonomously just as fast.

Sure you could play defense on a fast hanger like that, but a good, quick scorer can more than compensate for not being a hanger, perhaps scoring even more points.
A sub ten second hang, in my opinion, is worth it.
I’ve only seen one truly sub ten second hang, so…

basically driving into a bot on the ladder and making it fall by only running into it is legal?
I’m pretty sure that the rule is as long as you don’t get entangled… but I’m not the authority - if you really want to know, ask.
ya that is the way i understand it too. thanks
Well, we can descore and replace 2 goals in about 12sec. If each goal had 1 tube, and we score 1 tube each, that’s a 28 point swing. That’s why we never went for the hang, because its actually worth less points. Also, the ease of being blocked is off-putting. Teams can only ever hang from 2 of the 4 sides of the ladder (correct me if you can prove otherwise), so if an opponent blocks one side, they have to go all the way around to hang, which probably takes another 10s at least to get there. We can lock a base on the outside of the ladder where it can’t be descored, and it blocks hanging, so hanging seems severely ineffective right now.
