Looking for 60 Tooth Internal Ring Gear

Our team is looking for the 60 Tooth Internal Ring Gear (part # 228-2500-247) , we looked into purchasing the Hexbug Orbit set but we couldn’t find it anywhere including on ebay. Does anyone know where we can find either the full Orbit set or the actual part. Willing to pay for it + shipping if you happen to have an extra.

I have been looking for the last month as well and have not come across one. My son’s team likes planetary gear sets - they use several with 36 tooth ring gears on their current robot. If planning on making planetary gear sets, DO NOT buy the spider kit with the 48 tooth ring gear. Theoretically this could be used with a 24 tooth sun and 12 tooth planets, but the gears don’t actually fit as they should with the VEX pieces available to use as the planetary carrier - the spacing is off. One can drive the ring with a single internal gear, as the spider does. But one can’t build a planetary gear set for the fun gear ratios (example setup below).

Thank you for the detailed explanation. It is odd to me not to find something on ebay, i guess i’ll have to keep looking.

What software do you use in the last picture with the planetary gears?

Looks like Planetary Gear Simulator

Yes @holbrook , that’s the site. It had enough movement and color to get my son to play around with it and not immediately complain it’s boring lol.

This website rocks. Have used before, 10/10 recommend.

I had mentioned elsewhere that my son’s team loves the 36 tooth ring gear. The first came across it on a Hexbug ball shooting gun. It’s very compact and sturdy and gives a nice torque boost with the ring locked and the sun off the motor driving the plantery carrier. All sorts of pieces can be utilized in the carrier role - the team built 4 bar arm with one of the arm bars serving as the carrier - that was really compact, but required a 3x or larger plate and the arm bar itself being that wide created some problems, especially for a dr4b, which is their lift of choice for this season thus far.

This is another opportunity for VEX to dump all the ring gear sizes into a special SKU and ship them out to teams. With the only source of the larger gear being EBay, Vex is missing out on sales (since they are not getting any money from me buying on EBay).

Likewise the new offset axle supports that recently came out for the construction lineup. They are awesome to support gears, along with wheels. I know I’d buy each of my 70 teams a 10 pack.

Which offset axle supports? Do you have the part #, or the hexbug kit it came out off?

@Foster can you tell me which set/which part this refers too? I get a lot of sets at Goodwill, facebook marketplace, etc. I will look for these pieces.

They come in the newer kits to support the wheels. They capture the stopper and keep it aligned with the wheel and offer extra support. The stopper capture part is pretty key when dealing with wheels and keeping the stoppers tight to hold the wheels in alignment.

If you use some 1x2 pins and a pair of these you can support both sides of a flywheel.

I’ve seen them in the 3 pack construction vehicle kits. I have maybe a dozen here, the problem is trying to outfit the current roboteers. They can use 8-10 pretty quickly. So a bag of 750 or so would work.

I also scour the local Goodwills, they are a rare find around here.

Ah, yes, I should’ve realized that was the part you were talking about. I agree those are really useful for all sorts of rotating devices, with the trapped shaft collar inserted. Goodwill can be hit or miss, of course. I have found Facebook marketplace to be good too. It’s the usual range of used kits with asking prices higher than new retail combined with some truly great deals where it’s clear the seller justs wants to move it. Best of luck.

Circling back to the 60t internal gear, our team was able to locate it in the Hexbug Construction Zone pack, they are available both on Amazon and ebay (previously mentioned Hexbug Orbit has been discontinued and unavailable not even on ebay). Hope this helps the teams needing this rare piece.
