Is anyone here involved in the SkillsUSA MRoT program? If so, what can you tell me about it?
Background: I teach a high school robotics course and my school has a SkillsUSA chapter (Culinary Arts). I’m trying to find out about the the MRoT program to see if it would be a good fit. I currently use the VEX V5 robot kits in my class but have never competed in VRC.
What I know: The competition that the SkillsUSA MRoT does is a variation of the VRC game.
What I don’t know: Is SkillsUSA a curriculum (like PLTW)? If it’s a curriculum, is there somewhere where I can take a look at it? If it’s not a curriculum, how does MRoT integrate into a course?
Yes, the SkillsUSA Mobile Robotics Technology competition is essentially the current V5RC high school skills challenge. The rubric for determining who wins though is based on different factors too (see the topic above). As for the current california state manual, here is the link (if you search up " {your state} + competition manuals" and scroll down the website’s spreadsheet you should see it):
As for an MRoT curriculum specifically, SkillsUSA does not offer one from my knowledge (nor for just specific competitions). They do have a variety of programs for advisors, but I know very little of those (I can ask my advisor tomorrow about them). However, from doing a little search, I found these: Obtain Career-Ready Skills | SkillsUSA. CareerSafe | SkillsUSA SkillsUSA Absorb | SkillsUSA
Thanks Gigahertz.t. I had read your post about MRoT and was hoping you would see this and reply.
Thanks for the link to the SkillsUSA California State Contest Guidelines. I’m in CA so this is perfect. I had previously found the game manual, but not this.
I’ll check with our Skills advisor on campus to see what can be found on the Absorb platform.
I would love to hear what your advisor has to say and maybe get in touch with them.
Thanks again.
