Making a flywheel more consistent with tri-ball placement

We have a flywheel that has served us well, but our constant problem is the consistency of the flywheel. It seems like whenever we launch off tri-balls for match load they end up everywhere but in front of the net.

A flywheel will be inconsistant just because it puts spin on the balls and makes the roll around randomly.

But here are some general things that you can do to improve it are Slow down the flywheel,Load toward the center of the wheel and at the top, and Practice.

  1. Slow down your flywheel, only run it at the speed required for it to go over the bar in my experience the tri-ball will not roll around as much and will (most of the time) land infront of the goal.
  2. Load toward the center of the wheel and at the top. This makes the flywheel shoot straight drives toward the goal and doesn’t arc the triballs.
  3. Practice loading, the more practice you have loading the flywheel the better and more consistant it will be. Try having your match loaders focus on accuracy not speed for 1-2 practices.

In conclusion, the flywheel will be some bit inconsistant because it puts spin on the bar but some general things you can do to improve it are slow down the flywheel, load toward the center of the wheel and at the top, and practice.

Try and etablish a reaction surface from which the triball touches the flywheel, to increase consistent placement.

We put it closer to the front and it goes under the goal most times.

@4233XBen is right, flywheels will always be inconsistent. I must also add that having a main match loader is nice. Just one person to consistently do this can reduce change since it’s just one person. This is tricky because some people will be gone, but try as much as possible.
