For a claw mechanism my team wants to add, we need a motor to drive a lead screw in only one direction. I don’t want to attack it from a coding standpoint because of the power cutoff at the end of a match. I want to find a way to us hardware to lock the movement of the lead screw going in the opposite direction it should be driven in. Does anyone have pointers?
What you are asking about is a ratchet, if you search on this forum you will find many designs.
you could use a ratchet but I think for better functionality and easyness just use a worm gear so it can’t be backdriven.
Worm gears, which I assume you are referring to, are seen as self-locking, meaning you can spin the worm gear by the shaft it’s mounted on but is not possible to turn any other way. This can be done by simply only coding the motor to turn one direction, no attention to the other direction.
Another thing that works is making your claw pnuematic. I understand if you don’t have pneumatics then use what @OrangeMan @EthanArmstrong91976A @Laser-Turret are saying it is all useful information.
