Mecanum wheel CAD file

Does anyone have a .STEP, .STL, .OBJ, or even .SVG file of the VEX VRC 4" mecanum wheel that is not from the VEX website under product details. I have looked in other libraries and in old topics, but I have only found IAM. and IPT files but I haven’e been able to convert those into files I can use. I have tried the file from the vex website and for some reason, it looks very weird when imported. It may be due to something happening when I convert the file from STEP to STL. (The software i use can’t actually use STEP files, but STEP files can easily be converted into STL files) However, every single other file i have downloaded, converted, and imported from the vex website has had no issues except for one thing had the color changed. If the information is needed, I use Tinkercad. (It works and nothing else is compatible with my device :pensive:)

This is what it looks like when I import the mecanum wheel file from the vex website

. I have also tried to redownload the same file form the vex website several times and re import it but there has been no luck. I have also used different file converters.

Try this https://www.3dcontentcentral.com/download-model.aspx?catalogid=10874&id=603116 and https://www.3dcontentcentral.com/download-model.aspx?catalogid=10874&id=603120 First is for left, the second link is for right

Thankyou! do you know a way that I could simplify the file? My software says it is too complex to load I did try and download the STEP file and convert that, but for some reason i think it turned into a nylock nut? idk, I tried to re import that to make sure I didnt click on the wrong file but it still turned into a nut.

tinkercad

tinker cad does not support complex shapes(its only for starters)!

Use autodesk fusion 360 if you really want to do this

Its only a nylon nut because thats the only part that tinkercad is powerful enough to load

I had previously looked into Fusion360 but It was unable to run on my device correctly so I switched to TinkerCad because I had used TinkerCad briefly about a year before and knew it would work on my device.

I’m not familiar with tinkercad… But you should try fusion or inventor. I think fusion in easier to use for beginners, but it takes a long time to load after you put too many parts in one file.

Yes indeed. I also use fusion 360. I think that if you import a mesh into it, you can simplify its shape and export the simplified version

If you’re hard-set on using TinkerCad, you will need to use some form of intermediate program to convert the files. You could try using Blender for this, I’ve found it runs decently on weaker computers. I think if you use Blender to convert the STEP file to an STL, you should be able to import that into TinkerCad without issue. I’ve been informed this isn’t the case. I honestly don’t know if there’s another CAD software that would work for this.

SketchUp also is relatively easy to learn, and I’ve used it for some very rough mockups before. You could try using that, it just runs in the browser at https://app.sketchup.com. Apparently this can’t import STEP either. The More You Know ™

Personally, I use Fusion 360, although it definitely requires a nice computer and a few afternoons to get used to the software and start putting stuff together.

I thought you can only import stl files into blender?

i cant use blender anyways. I use a chromebook and cant currently update to anything nice like windows) and was unable to install Blender and the rollapp version of blender didnt work. I am trying out sketchapp now, but it isnt handling the mecanum file too well. My teammates though have the proper software and know a decent amount about CAD, so if i desperately need a file converted to use, I could have them do it for me. I also am pretty sure one of them uses blender.

edit: the creator of a topic can see edits? thats weird, I havent seen that before,

The reason it looks like you can see edits is because I used the <del> tag around the parts I removed. So if I type

I like <del>cats</del> dogs

it shows up as

I like cats dogs

I wanted to keep my old, inaccurate advice visible (as others have referenced that from their posts) while clearly showing that it was inaccurate.

Thankyou so much @Wes8, @sarah_97963A. and @Eden for the help and suggestions!

Take a look at Onshape. It’s a commercial CAD package, similar to Solidworks, but it is cloud-based so it can run on less powerful computers, even Chromebooks.
