Mechanism in the style of a crossbow

I’m fresh to the world of robots. So, I’m at a loss as to how I could construct a crossbow-type mechanism.

You can search up “Turning Point Double Catapult” on youtube there would be some explanation to it, quite similar (in mechanism) to what you are trying to construct I think.
When you shave an arc of the gear, it will skip and that would be the power to launch it forward. However, that wouldn’t be enough still and you need rubber bands to generate even more power
