Coming into next years game I am getting a few drivetrain CADs for possible solutions to next years game. I am wondering if 600 rpm on 2 inch V2 Mechanum’s is a good option. I know there was an article on the same question about the V1 2 inch but the question was not answered because apparently the V1’s are very bad.
So, no idea how good or bad the V2 are, but they are at least thinner. It would be easy to have the maccannum on the corners and 2" omnis in the middle for 6 motor drive front to back.
Sounds kind of fun, so if you want to try a $75 experiment and report back, go for it.
A real question is why do you assume you need to strafe when the game is not out?
Just doing a cad for all the types of drivetrains to have options available.
I haven’t tried them on a drivetrain (just for a random early-season intake concept), but we have some V2 mechanum wheels and they really don’t look sturdy at all. I’d be pretty skeptical about them holding up in a competition.
There are multiple types of mechanum wheels?
That depends pretty much on the field layout of the next game.
If you need to drive forward, then sideways, then backward without any space to turn - this would make mecanums the most viable option.
However, if you have a widely open field or need to drive over tall barriers, then 4" omni wheels are the best choice.
