That looks very cool. Thanks for sharing! Do you think the grip mat is necessary though?
No problem, we got the idea from another team, I forget team’s number.
The team we saw this from was 1483, Trinity Robotics
So do you think it would be fine without the anti slip mat? Also how many teeth did you put each rubber band around? I tried putting each one all the way across the sprocket, but I don’t know if that’s necessary.
We have them go fully across each sprocket, which gives the least amount of slip, the anti slip are pretty necessary so that nothing gets caught between the bands, but it might be able to run without them.
With out the l anti slip mat, the rubber bands can get caught on the ridges of the cone, causing it to not drop correctly
I know that this thread is dedicated purely to the goliath and modified claws, but I really think you should consider passive intakes. They can be just as fast as the goliath and can simplify the stacking motion.
See the video of 7700R below to see what I mean.

I don’t understand how that claw works, but I can see that it has the potential to be reallllyyyyy fast
It’s not a claw. It’s essentially a funnel made with lexan. It has a slit in the back so they can just go down on a stack and pull back down immediately to the next cone.
For some reason our “Goliath” intake- we call it a vacuum intake- can actually act passive; meaning that it can grab the cone just by being slipped over it.
Think the most proper term should be - roller intake.
The so called Goliath intake is simply a horizontal roller intake.
And if it is not using motor, then it will be passive horizontal roller intake.
Just curious, how does the term Goliath comes about?
I’m not sure, and it doesn’t seem fitting to me… You’ll notice I don’t use it.
I agree, if your top rollers are goliath like, you’re doing something wrong.
Top and side rollers are terms that I am familiar with
Well… maybe I am just getting too old for all these…
I am on your side. Totally have no clue what they mean by “goliath intake”. Not sure why didn’t use well defined terms. Or maybe I am just too old too.
Add me to the “too old” category. I had no idea what a “goliath” intake was. Everyone else that chimed in on the thread seemed to know what it was.
I’m still not positive what it is! But the world is still spinning and the sun will come up tomorrow!
It all stems from this video.
Well… based on this video, it is obviously a top or horizontal roller intake.
Guess we just don’t understand the need of coming up with new terms when it is already well-defined in the first place.
Another gripe I have is danny lift… sorry… it is just a variation of dr4b, period.
There is really not much that is new under the sun.
That’s true, really I think this all just stems off of each team that comes up with a variation on a design, or come up with a design independently ,wanting to put their stamp or trademark on that design.
Wow, that is really incredible! Do you know how it works, and if so could you tell me?
