Middle School Teams and the Definition of "Student"

This question comes in a few parts in response to this thread.

The only definition of student I could find is

however, obviously this definition would not properly apply to the middle school division. I was unable to find any specific rules regarding grade ranges for VRC as to what constitutes high school vs middle school, unlike the explicit grade ranges found in the VEX IQ manual. What are these grade ranges?

Secondly, I was wondering about the level of participation allowed for high school students on a middle school team in various situations. In the following situations would a high schooler on a middle school team be allowed to be considered a student (i.e allowed to drive and allowed to handle the Skyrise sections as coach)

In a competition which is not a middle school only competition, does not provide a middle school specific award, and is not a qualifier for a middle school only competition?

Thanks in advance, and sorry if I missed the grade ranges somewhere

There are multiple questions in here that need to be answered by multiple groups. I’ll answer the parts specific to the game here, and then pass on the remaining questions regarding both grade levels and qualification to the REC Foundation.

This question will be answered by the REC Foundation as it deals with team registration.

Since this is a question about a specific game rule, the VRC Game Design Committee can answer. For the purposes of the Middle School competition, High School students would be treated like Adults. (e.g. Prohibited from touching the controls, prohibited from touching Skyrise Sections, etc.)

This question will be answered by the REC Foundation as it deals with the qualification structure.

I’m moving this thread to the official REC World Championship Q&A where they can answer the open questions.
