Well, the only kind of robotics my middle school has is the lego robotics going to a lame, unorganized event (which, doesn’t even like to acknowledge that we won). That was last year. Now, the club is just a group of kids, without even a mentor (yeah. that’s right, the tech teacher was too lazy to help us out.) I feel like quitting it… i’ve got better things to do… like i’m starting my own buisness modding kid’s game controllers. I make a lot of electronics stuff for kids at my school. I’ll be making at least $100 in the next week… haha…
So you don’t have a Robotics team that will be going to worlds?
I am the coach for 323B which took 2nd place with you at U.S. Nationals. I don’t think any of the students from 323B are on these forums. Unfortunately we couldn’t afford to go to Worlds this year. We are hoping for more sponsorship next year.
Good luck at Worlds! I’m sure you will do well.

I’m late to the party (again) – sorry!
Is robotics important enough to you to strike out on your own? That might be the way to go if things at your school are disintegrating. When my son was in middle school, there was no robotics of any kind at his school, and he desperately wanted to compete. He begged me coach the team, promising that I wouldn’t have to do any of the technical work, just open up our home for meetings and bake cookies. I knew that he was serious when he laid down a year’s allowance toward team expenses. We ran robotics teams out of our home for 3 years, until he was fortuitously re-districted to a high school that was more open to having a robotics team than the one he came from.
If you already have a Vex kit, you’ll find the registration/competition fees to be reasonable (equipment upgrades, unfortunately, are another matter). There are “teams” of one, but if you can find a friend or 2 to share the work and the costs, even better.
