A little late but a 3:1 does not need any rubber bands if built well. My old one could pick up a mobile goal along with 7 cones without any elastics.
I had 1:3 and mine was built well, but since we used a X drive the lift had to get the mogo over the wheels. So the arms were very long, so the motors needed 1 rubber band each side.
