Motor allocation advice

Hi, my team and I just did our first comp and scored pretty well, for our next comp we want to improve everything and one idea the other teams at our school put out was to upgrade to a 6 motor drive. Currently we are running 4 motors for the drivetrain, 1 for the intake, and 1 for the conveyor. any ideas on how to change this up to allow for 1 more motor for a wall stake mechanism? Any advice would be appreciated.

You can do a few things, 1 way would be to chain your intake and conveyor together to use the same single motor. This would leave 6 motor drive, 1 motor intake/conveyor, and 1 motor wall stake. You also could use 1/2 power or 5.5w motors so get more motors. This would leave (most likely) 66w drive, 11 conveyor, 5.5w intake, 5.5w wall stakes. Lastly I have seen a few teams use piston based wall stakes (piston redirects or lady browns in specific) to do wall stakes without a motor. This leaves 6 motor drive, 1 motor conveyor, 1 motor intake, (generally) 2 piston wall stakes.

Welcome to the vex forum

With the 6 motors used in the drive train you could connect the intake to the conveyor via chain. You could always use 5.5 watt motors although I am aware that some schools don’t have them if you do you can use 2 5.5 watt on a lift or 2 5.5 watt on the intake and conveyor system. If you don’t have any 5.5 watt you can always use 1, 11 watt motor for the intake and convayor and a 11 watt for an arm. Hope some of this is useful.
