Motor and Piston Usage

Hi, Jamil from 10863A here just coming to ask everybody what they are using ever motor and piston for. If you could be specific the team would greatly appreciate that.

6 motor drive, 1 motor intake, 1 motor wall stake mech, 2 piston mogo, 1 piston intake lift, 1 piston doinker mech

So far, we have planned a:

  • 77w 450 rpm drive
  • 2 5.5w motor 2-stage intake
  • 1-2 pneumatic actuator mogo clamp
  • 2 actuator descore mech ↔ wall stake mech converter
  • 2 actuator hang popper

And if we have spare psi/time I might experiment with boosting my drive.

Here are some good examples of what Icy1 is talking about. Drive Train Link: DriveTrain Clamp Link: Clamp].

4 motor drive, 1-2 motor intake, 1-2 motor wall stake mech, 2 piston mogo, 1 piston intake lift, and then whatever else we decide on.

My team:

  • 66 Watt Drivetrain

  • 22 Watt Intake

  • 2 Piston Mogo-Mech

  • 1 Piston Doinker

So far we are planning
66 watt drive
11 watt intake
2 piston pto/transmission on the drivetrain
1 piston for holding the goal(don’t know the technical term)
1 piston for a arm to move the rings out of the corner.

planning to add
11 watt arm for scoring wall stakes/ elevation

I would say that PTO/transmission is definitely not worth it. Rather, you should go for a solid somewhat speedy drivetrain like 480rpm on 2.75” wheels. I also highly recommend having a 2 piston mogo mech rather that a 1 piston mogo mech because it’s easy to steal mogos from teams with 1 piston mogo mechs

I agree here, as scrimmaging with teams from my org, 2 piston clamps are a must. On the other hand, you should never have a need for a transmission unless you are going for high hang and need that torque.

I think it has its purposes in push fights or corner fights, but I would only use it if you plan on not using pnumatic cylinders for hanging (I don’t know, It still might work)

See I was coming from the perspective that @BananaPi mentioned with corner fights. I noticed how a lot of teams with 6 motor drives would try and push each other and nothing would happen so I thought being able to switch to torque to push them out of the way and then switch back to have speed. But I do see the point of having a two-piston mogo mech.

Also we are planning to eventually have a hopper and arm to do wall stakes but it would double as an elevation mech

Define “doinker” please, I’m new so I don’t know much

The doinker is used to boink the balamazag so the robot manages to rambal the bongo and score the kabloomer. That’s the whole point of the game, isn’t it?

Jokes aside,

Shaydon posted his robot:

It’s probably the pneumatic cylinder you can see on the right, which I think is to topple mobile goals (although the new Game Manual update stops that now).

Nerdy moment incoming -:point_up_2:Umm actually, the Sep 3rd update didn’t prevent mobile goal tipping, they just made it where even when it’s tipped, it’s still considered scored. Just wanted to clarify for you:wink:

Sorry I didn’t get to you sooner, haven’t been on forum today, but, my purpose is to clear out the corners. But I could still use it to tip goals as @J.4 said.

Yes, I should’ve been more clear. I meant that I thought it was used to tip the mobile goal over to make them no longer score, and the new game manual still counts that as scored now.

This is what our secondary team are planning

  • 66w motor drive
  • 11w intake
  • 11w MoGo mech

Our secondary team has no piston (they’re cooked fr)

we are currently planing for this layout

  • 66w drive

  • 11w intake

  • 11w 2 bar wall stake mech

  • 2-cylinder Mogo mech

  • 1 cylinder ring redirect for wrong color rings in the intake

I believe the technical term for a goal holder would be a ‘mobile goal clamp’ commonly known as a ‘mogo mech’, thanks for your response.
