Motor Calculation question

whats the max pound load a red motor can over come (in pounds) assuming the center of mass of the load is 24 inches or 2 feet away from the motor? assuming no gear ratios.

The max torque of a vex motor is 2.1 nm. 2 feet to meters = 0.61. we can solve for net torque = torque of motor - mgrsin(theta). In order for the motor to move upward torque of motor > mgrsin(theta).
2.1> m9.80.61*1(assuming it’s directly on the horizontal)
m<0.351 kg
Converting to lbs it would be 0.77 lbs. Keep in mind this is the theoretical max weight and different factors such as friction may play a role when trying to apply this to the real world.

Sounds like you are on right track, but you want others to do the work for you.

The missing information you need is on VEX Robotics V5 motor product specs and additional information can be found on kb.vex.com

Motors with a red cartridge and no external gear ratio have a stall torque of 2.1 Nm (Newton-Meters). We can plug the torque and the radius into the equation torque (Nm) = force (N) x radius (m) to get the force. 2.1 Nm / 0.6096 m = 3.44 N. That’s around 0.77 pounds of force before the motor can’t move anymore, assuming no friction or other inefficiencies.
