Motor keeps locking up and only spinning a little bit, What do I do?

So one motor of the robot keeps locking up and it can only spin to a certain degree. Its identical to the other half and its not working, What do I do to fix it?

Maybe the motor is overheating that has happened to me before.

If it’s physically being limited then the cartridge may be bad or the motor itself may be bad. If it can physically go past it, then there may be an issue with the code.

To fix it, you must first diagnose it.

Using direct motor control on the brain, spin the motor both directions. If this passes, then your problem is code.

If it hangs, remove the gear cartridge and try again. If it doesn’t hang, the cartridge is bad.

It it hangs… the motor has internal problems. If you have another damaged motor, you can try to disassemble and swap out the internal gears.

Could also be 1) the motor wire and 2) the port itself.

@99088b if it is over heating you could take some strain off the arm or it could be a completely separate problem it would nice if you could show some pictures. :grinning:

this might help Arm Lift and Lock Problem

It may also be an issue with friction.

I had this issue with my drive train and having less friction was an easy fix for it

But it may also be that your motor isn’t strong enough and you may need to use a stronger motor, and if you are already using a red gear cartridge then you may need to use gears.

But I also see that there are some other great comments that may help you too.

Hope this information helps
