Motor Not Responding

We have been working off of a standard drive base for a few months with no motor or sensor problems. Last night the kids tried to operate the robot, but one of the drive wheel smart motors was not functioning. After investigating, we found that the motor is not responsive at any port with any cable. Another motor works at the same port with the same cable. We tried to update the firmware, but the firmware software does not even recognize the motor.

Can anyone offer suggestions as to a next step with a completely unresponsive motor?
