Motors are making a strange sound

Hi. Some of my motors sometimes do make strange noises as if there was something turning inside the motor… is there any explanation to that?
Thanks

You may need to check to see if any of the internal gears are chipped or damaged in any way.

Under what circumstances do you hear these noises?

It sounds like the axle the motor is supposed to be turning isn’t actually in the motor.

@Barin
It’s not the case, it’s the motor of my holonomic chassis, we simply linked the motors to our cortex and theye made this sound, the day after we didn’t hear a thing, do you think it might be because of the cortex programming?
Thanks

Is it a sort of high-pitched ‘whining’ sound?

Yess

What is happening is that the motors are running at such a low setting that they are technically running but incapable of actually producing motion.

This generally is a result of using joystick channels to control motors. When the joystick channels look like they’re at 0 and you’d expect the motors to stop, the channels actually return values between -15 and 15. To fix this, you have to program a deadband: if the channels return between -15 and 15, don’t run the motors (set them to 0); otherwise use the returned value from the channels.

@Barin
Will do this, thanks
