Hi I was wondering if anyone else has had a problem with the v5 motors. Our motors have jammed twice. The motor locks in one spot and won’t spin. Does anyone have a solution for this? Thanks.
Apparently whacking them works.
Yes, twist them with a large wheel attached to the shaft (mechanical advantage) you should be able to unlock them going back and forth. It is not the gear cartridge locking up.
Whacking only as last resort worked when I was frustrated, I do not recommended it as SOP, you might void warrantee.
What’s locking up? Is it something that can be repaired in the field? Or is this just a common failure mode for V5 motors?
So far, I have seen this two motors so far. In both cases, on one robot and on drive train. I do not have enough data to confirm cause. Sample size small (two motors out of 60).
We just had one jam this week - we ended up swapping it out and I planned to call support Monday. Are these motors repairable? Once you unjam them, do they tend to get jammed again easily?
Side note - ours started by jamming periodically when moved by hand but seemed to do fine under power. After awhile, though, it jammed under power as well and we couldn’t get it to unjam (we didn’t try forcing it much, as it was attached to a mechanism).
