Motors

I think vex should make stronger gears inside the motors, our team was at a servo competition and we broke two motors but we fixed them but its just to much of a hassle especially on the go. servo is held by the eagle bots:D   Tell me other idea on how to fix this problem:cool:

if you can, try to decrease the load on the motors by gearing them to make them more powerful. or use two motors instead of one to get the load split in half.

We had 4 separate wheels on the bot but it was only about 1-2 ft tall and we only had the four motors so there was no real big load on any one motor

yea i think the gears in side the moters should be stronger to ive broke the inside gears a couple times and it really frustrates you if it breaks in a moter where its hard to reach on ure bot and you have to take half of it apart to fix it

If you are breaking gears inside the motor that means you are not using the CLUTCH. The clutch is designed to prevent too much stress from being applyed to the gears inside the motors.

Yes in know but they still should make them stronger:D

I’ve never broken a clutch but I’ve stripped the motor’s gears with them on. I just don’t use them now, the clutches only get in the way.

You should not hold IFI accountable for breaking the gears. They don’t need to be any stronger. I’m sure IFI made them as strong as they need to be if you use the clutch. Obviously they know that sometimes you can still overload the motor because they include replacement gears. If you keep breaking motors on a regular basis you need to look at you design because you are doing something wrong.

I have never broke the gears inside the motors because I have used the clutch. I know that when I hear the clutch popping something is wrong so I redesign the robot.

The motors are fine. If the gears are breaking, you have either too much load on the motor or the motor is turning quickly and then suddenly switching direction. As far as I know, the clutches don’t actually work like they should (although this might be because I’ve never actually made a robot that ‘clicks’), but having them doesn’t hurt.

okay:D
