Mounting a Limit Switch on slingshot

My team is having issues mounting the limit switch for our slingshot in a place so that it will push it down when going one way and not pull it up when coming back.

We’ve gone through multiple limit switch arms.

Any recommendations or input is appreciated!

Try a bumper switch: Bumper Switch v2 (2-Pack) - VEX Robotics these are connected better so they cant get pulled off.

Pictures? Try mounting the limitswitch and coding it such that the slingshot doesn’t go far enough past it to grab and rip off the arm, or bend the arm back towards the limitswitch a bit so that the slingshot can’t get behind it.

The thing is–
with a bumper switch, the slingshot has a “hard stop.”
This means that once it’s “primed” (the limit or bumper switch is being pressed), it won’t move any further, which then leaves our slip gear and slingshot useless :frowning:

Why do you want the limit switch there then? Generally, you want to stop when you are primed so that the robot is ready to fire, but you can adjust aim as needed. You just need an extra button on the controller that when you press it, you spin until the button is no longer pressed.

Try triggering the limit switch indirectly. Teams often stretch a rubber band across the arc in which an arm moves such that the arm pushes the band down, and the band triggers the switch. Greatly reduces the stress on the switch.

Could do something similar with a bumper switch by substituting a small bit of plastic for the rubber band.
