My team is very behind

My VEX V5 team is really behind and probably won’t be able to make every mechanism- What should we prioritize?

Well, this is a decision you and your team need to decide.
You should decide what your strategy is, and how you will maximise that.
Frankly, it depends on how long you spend on the robot each week, how long you have, etc.

What I found to be great when building my second robot, was to start with goal control. This lets your intake be structured around how your clamp (or other mechanism) works, and reduced the amount of tuning necessary. Next a ring scoring mech (such as an intake). That’s what you should start with.

Yet I meet you again… I mean, do you have a drive train already? Or could you send a picture of your current robot?

Currently, we have a drivetrain and an intake.

Are you able to send a photo? To see if hook or hood is better for your robot.

prioritize scoring on mobile goals. I managed to put a robot together in 6 hours with a friend that can effectively score on mobile goals. It obviously has some issues, but time-wise, it was extremely efficient and was actually comp-viable, especially in lower-competition regions.

yes ik it has illegal tubing for v5rc. it was made from scrap parts from 338a and the tubing we bought for LOUIE

I would be more concerned about lack of battery for power to V5 brain from pictures

thanks for sharing, and owning non-compliant red pneumatic tubing …

I do think teams that start with mobile goal ownership is good start, then placing rings on stakes of mobile goal next with an alliance partner who scores lots of rings on mobile goal who hands them off to their partner. Options are good!

I feel like the intake is more important than the mobile goal clamp because if you have to go to a competition, you can still score at least compared to only being able to hold on to a mobile goal (and try stealing from others).

mogo clamp + intake go hand in hand without one the other is useless.

you cannot score on a mobile goal if you do not have a clamp. If youre talking about the alliance stake, then you will only be able to maybe score a preload in skills. Clamp is better because you can steal goals from opponents.

Sure you can! I’ve seen several teams build designs that do not require a clamp, but are still very competitive.

It’s just like we thought there would be no way someone would be able to achieve a tier three climb at the beginning of the season, but a few teams have made it possible!

Maybe not as useless as you think. A mobile goal clamp will allow you to score effectively 20 points in Skills in Driver, 5+ with good planning and testing in Autonomous skills. Moreover, during a head to head match, you can take control of a mobile goal from your alliance partner that they have score rings on to protect or move to + corner. You can also move opposing alliance mobile goal from + corners or move them to -…

Intake only - not much use unless you can put rings on Wall stake or Mobile goal that is wobbly.

I have never seen a good scorer without a clamp. You need some kind of tilt to score with an intake.

My team has been prioritizing consistency. expecially on the mobile goals. They are very important for scoring points, but being able to do it easily and quickly really helps out.

My sister team built the axel hero bot, not only it can score, it has a working autonomous

Do not worry about the wall stakes scorer right now because you really just need to get the basic design done.

I agree because both of these 2, but very important things, take a long time to think of a design, argue about it, build, tweek, re build, and then final product.
