Need help building a PTO

Hello everyone,

This off-season I wanted to build a 6-motor drive with a PTO. But this last 2 days, I started to feel frustrated because I don’t know how to continue with the build.

Yesterday I realized that the main problem is that the pneumatics spin freely. This causes the “U” thing that moves the gest to fall down.

Today I tried to eliminate the movement using a shaft, but It doesn’t work well because the shaft due to the slight movement doesn’t go straight and then the pneumatics can’t expand

Here you have a video about what I’m talking:

And here a photo of the DriveTrain that I want to attach the pneumatics:

Every tip or recommendation is welcomed.

@roboticsperson could maybe help. Apparently built a PTO climb so…

Use plastic for shifting piece and also grind down your gears to make bevel gears. For guiding the piston use HS pillow bearings and thread the standoffs through.

try using plexiglass or nuts to lock on to the gear. I fthis does not work try online videos

NUTS? Why, we dont use nuts its just plastic gear plastic.

Thank you for all the comments, I really appreciated them. Today in the morning I thought about the main problems, got inspired by the PTO of @606X, and this afternoon I solved them. If you are seeing this thank you really much for posting those explanations videos, help me a lot and I’m sure that it did for a lot more people :raised_hands:.

The main solution was:

That was what I saw on the @606X video.

Alot of teams including my own use a piston with two circular wide-washers on the end of it to pull the gear back and forth, so even if the wide-washers spin around they still contact the gear. This also comes with the bonus of reduced friction and a smoother transition. You can buy them here.

Would you mind posting a picture of the bot now that it is fixed?
