NEED HELP!-can't get program on robot!

I have been trying to put a program on my robot for a few hours! I don’t have the original programing cord that goes from the robot to the programing module and am using a 4 contact phone cord. I noticed that the robot and module have 6 contacts, is that a problem? It worked on the old easyC but now I lost my disc and have a different computer so I downloaded a trial of the easyC v2.0 and now it wouln’t work
HELP!

Yes I believe that is a problem. (read it somewhere on this forum…)

someone please double check me but…

The chord that came with the programming kit cannot be replaced by a telephone chord.

I think you need a six contact cord, but im not sure either. Phone cords will work for connecting the controller to the robot, but not for downloading software.

The pinout of the programming port is documented in this FAQ.

You will need a 6-wire cable to replace the orange programming cable. I think this one from Radio Shack would do (though it is absurdly long, at 25’). You might also try your local hardware stores; just make sure all 6 contacts are present and that there are six wires - usually 6C cable is noticeably wider than common 4C phone cable.

The only thing to be concerned about is if the cable is a “straight through” or “crossover” type. I’m not sure which type Vex needs (don’t have it in front of me at the moment).

Hope this helps,

It needs all 6 wires, and the Wires are Crossed Over, meaning that the Color of Pin #1 on one connector is Pin #6 on the other connector. I know because my cable was damaged, so I made a new one from 6 wire cord and the 6 conductor ends.

If you have the right crimper you can make the 6 wire RJ-11 cable. It sounds like you might have done that, but here’s a link to a crimper I’ve used.
