New Game

I noticed that tomorrow is the unveiling of the new game. will I be able to see this live via webcast? just wanting to know. thanks

I second this question!

i believe so but not sure of the time. all i know is that its going to be really early here in hawaii:mad:

Noon is early in Maui???

Sort of Early. I can’t wait for the new game  Just 5 more hours in Hawaii!

I believe the time is at 6 PM EST.

Although, does anyone know which webcast will be showing the game launch?

They might relabel them, but the 2011/12 launch is on the College/Event Finals field, so try the college webcast. It also will probably be simulcast on the other fields.

Someone needs to tell Karthik to stand up, I can’t see him behind Kari.

Let me be the first to ask a few questions:

Are we allowed to lift up the moveable gateway gates?

Are we allowed to use our robot to lift up the moveable gateway gates?

Are we allowed to smack opposing robots by lowering a gate on them when they are under it? Are we allowed to smack allied robots?

When I lift the gate, do I have to wait for it to be fully raised before my robot is allowed to pass under it?

If I start to lift the gate, but then decide not to lift it, do I have to raise it all the way up before I can lower it?

If all of the members of my alliance who are present for a match are busy driving the robots, will the referees lift our gate for us whenever we ask them to do it?

If I forget to turn on my robot before a match starts, when I do turn it on, does good sportsmaship require the other robots in the match to pause and wait for my VEXNet link to the robot to get established?

does anyone know where i can find the video to gateway? all i can see is pictures

I believe so. However, (and everyone correct me if I’m wrong) this has to be done before the last 30 seconds of the game

If anything, I personally say extra points for the robot that does that!

Again, it was my understanding that once the gate was up, it had to stay up for the remainder of the game

An excellent question… Judging by the fact that it’s a human lifting, my gut says no, just because it takes 1-3 seconds to lift it… Not that crucial… Plus, what happens if no one on the team is physically able to lift the gate?

I don’t believe it is an option to put it back down, so personally, I would say if you touch the gate, it has to go up.

I would say yes. If they make it a rule that the drive team (2 drivers and a coach) have to raise it, there are a lot of loopholes that everyone will find… Also keep in mind that again, someone, or a whole team might not be physically capable of lifting the gate. Maybe it’s just my safe nature, but this could lead to a possible lawsuit.

I say no. Mainly because you forgot. I mean, I appreciate fair play, but half of robotics is what happens BEFORE you get to the field. If I have the clarity of mind, as well as the checklist to remind me to turn everything on and plug it in, I think the connection time is an adequate penalty for teams that forgot to do something.

AGAIN: this is just my personal interpretation, and my opinions from what I gathered… Go bug Karthik for the official rules on everything…

The one question I know the answer to…

You cannot lower the gate once it is raised.

The rest I don’t know - they are Karthik Questions…

That would be nice, does anybody have a link or video from the event?

Thanks

I believe the actual rule is that you can raise the gate at any time, but the gates must go up in the last 30 seconds.

I think that the game will be interesting. Personally, I think that the 30" marker might be a little too high, but teams have been known to adapt.

As far as the actual launch was concerned, I’d say it wasn’t the best I’ve seen. They didn’t answer very many questions, the animation wasn’t too informative, and there wasn’t very much leading up to the thing (not to mention the technical issue they had).

I for on am interested in when the negation pieces are introduced, and whether or not the entire column is negated or just the pieces below it? And does a piece that doubles the value override the negations piece or what?

And this whole allowing to touch the robot is interesting. The rules behind this will have to be cleverly designed to make sure that there’s no hanky panky.

I don’t like the fact that there’s no autonomous bonus for having the most points, but instead it’s a race to score the points first.

All in all, it’s an ok game, but I’m interested to see some game play…I bet the kiwis are done with their robots already…

Two someones forgot to pay extra attention to the winking smiley at the end of my message.

Let Me answer this as i read the offical rule book

<SG11> Drivers or Coaches may lift their own Gate at any time during the Match. Once lifting of the Gate
had begun it must be finished promptly and the Gate cannot be dropped. Both Gates must be lifted and
latched before thirty (30) seconds are remaining in the Match. Violations of this rule will result in a
Disqualification of both teams on the offending Alliance.
<SG12> Robots may not interact with the Gate for more than five (5) seconds or after there are thirty-five
(35) seconds remaining in the Match. Robots may not interfere with the raising of the Gate, nor may they
lift the Gate. Violations of this rule will result in a Disqualification.
Are we allowed to use our robot to lift up the moveable gateway gates?

No as rules stated above

I dont think so as rules stated above but it must be latched before 30 seconds as stated above.

You have to lift it all the way and the gate cannot be lowered at all when raised.

Im not too sure about this one

<SG5> During the Autonomous Period, Drivers and Coaches may handle their own Robot while the
Robot is in contact with their own Alliance Starting Tile.
<SG6> During the Driver Controlled Period, Drivers and Coaches may handle their own Robot as long as
the robot has never left the Alliance Starting Tile. The intent of this rule is to allow teams to fix Robots
which were unable to move at the start of the Match.
Note: During the handling specified in <SG5> And <SG6> robots may be repositioned, but must be
returned to a valid starting position as per <SG1> within the same zone.

Here we go blake

Oh btw all this rule states no descoring objects.

<SG9> Robots are not permitted to remove (descore) any Scoring Objects which are considered Scored
by clause 1 of the definition of Scored. Violations of this rule will result in a Disqualification. (See figure
14)

Actually it says no "remove"ing objects.

Hooray! At least one author was paying attention during their vocabulary classes!

Now if we can get just them to remove the unnecessary word, “considered”… It frequently crept into the rules this season

Blake

But nothing is truely “scored” until after the match: G9
And if nothing is scored until after the match, therefore nothing can be descored… :stuck_out_tongue:
I think that’s why it says “considered.”

Doubling and negation pieces can be loaded in the last 30 seconds. A doubling and a negation piece in the same goal cancel each other out (and you can’t have double doubles).

The game was released 10am our time. Those of us who stayed at home have been building since then, and I think what we have so far doesn’t look too bad ;).
