New to Vex - HELP!!!!!

Iโ€™m new to Vex, so can you tell me how many input/output ports there are?

There are 8 motor outputs, 6 interrupt ports, and 15? I think Digital/Analogue intput ports.

all the microcontroller info can be found here:
http://www.vexlabs.com/vex-robotics-design-system.shtml

anything else?

theres 16 digital and anolog ports and two other ports a tx and rx

in speaking of the rx and tx ports are there easyC commands for this?

im not really sure i think you can use the ports for like bluetooth or something else but im not sure

Iโ€™m about to spend $4,500 on LEGO NXT kits for my classroom. Then I discovered Vex. What should I do?

what grade is your class? you should also try REC (which is vex) heres the link:
http://www.intelitek.com/products/product.asp?cid=1&pid=12&did=366

or vexlabs education kits
http://www.vexlabs.com/vex-education.shtml

if your class is 7th grade or lower id go with legos, 8th or higher go with vex

You are in a no-lose situation. Either one would be great for your classroom. There is plenty of information out there about both the Mindstorms kit, and the Vex Robotics Design System. You need to do research to determine what is best for your applications.

Obviously, Iโ€™m partial to Vex. You need to make your own decision, however. If you decide to go the Vex route, I can put you in touch with one of our educational reps to help figure out exactly what is best for your classroom.

John

Thanks for the input. I see great potential in both. I like the idea of the students doing a little more of the assembly required in Vex systems. Part of my focus is to give them some experience using various tools, and LEGOs donโ€™t offer that. I plan to use robotics in my 7th and 8th Engineering Tech Ed classes. Iโ€™m going to Carnegie Mellon this summer, and I believe they host training on both systems.

Iโ€™ll do a little more research before I make my decision. Iโ€™ve got to submit my PO to our coordinator by Dec. 14th.

Thanks again!

I believe this is accurate

OK sorry to be a bit rude but this is getting annoyingโ€ฆit seems to me that when a question on a thread is answered the thread just keeps going anyway, this is starting to happen quite a bit
