New VEX Robot Speed Chart

Hey everyone,
Most of you have seen this picture. https://vexforum.com/gallery/showimage.php?i=72&catid=favorites. But this is for the old 3-wire motors, so I felt like updating it for the new 393’s in high speed(160rpm)! And luckily for me the old 3-wire motors and the new 269’s and 393(as they are shipped) all run at 100 rpm, so I just converted the numbers over to make my own chart for them. I hope these help some people out as much as the old one helped me. I tried to make them color coated and as pretty as possible but if you have any suggestions please let me know! If you would like to get a quick lesson on how to calculate any answers I got on this sheet feel free to ask or PM me! And don’t be shy to point out any mistakes, the quicker you find them the faster I can fix them. So here they are!

First of all these are great. Second of all you can make it a lot prettier in Excel, and sort them and all that fun stuff. (I heard you may be making another one in Excel?) Third I found one thing you may want to change; just the coloring on the 393 Motors in Speed configuration. You might want to change them to be a little more true to the way VEX colored theirs, FPS wise. That’s all I noticed, really. Again great work on the charts!

Thank you for your compliments! And I will be making a much prettier version in Excel and will sort things a lot better. I was just changing the colors up a little to make it stand out more, but if you guys think changing it would look better, I can defiantly change it. Again, thank you for your kind words!

-Dave

Oh, no I think I didn’t specify clearly. I didn’t mean the actual colors you chose. I meant that in the VEX-made charts the yellow “warning” zone starts at around 2.39, and the red “danger” zone starts at around 5.53. You have this in the 100 RPM chart but not in the 160 RPM one. Just thought you may want to change that, like I’m working on doing with mine.

~Jordan

Oh oh oh oh oh, I get what you’re saying now, I updated it! Thank you!

-Dave

Sounds like a good reason to use conditional formatting…

Hmmmm…

Hey everyone,
I finished the Excel version, this also includes an interactive chart. You can input the gear ratio you want and it will show you all of the info so you wont have to spend the time and search, it also is able to calculate arm rotation speed, all you have yo do is put in the radius of the arm, and the gear ratio, and it’ll do the math for you. Let me know if there are any problems with it, I did this pretty quickly. :stuck_out_tongue: Here’s the link to it, you can quickly download it here:http://www.mediafire.com/?aw17z8c5vaazfvd It’s safe, no worries. Feedback please! Thank you for your time.

Hey you did a excelent job the file looks great the only problem was the site it gave me a couple pop-ups but thats ok now. Well i just wanted to say great job and when are you gonna send out the 100rpm 2-wire chart from excel?

First of all I’m not ripping on Dave at all or saying that my chart is any bit better than his. I just figured since I finished it and he had already created a thread for it, that I’d go ahead and post my own. This was pretty much inspired by Dave, as he reminded me once again by mentioning making one of these in another post. So again thank you Dave, and here we go:

First of all it’s created in Microsoft Excel 2003, but I’m assuming that it will work in any version newer than that. (If someone who owns a newer version could let me know if that get it working or not that would be great!)
Second of all you can sort by all the different columns by clicking the buttons that are labeled “Motor RPM,” “Reduction Type,” “Driving Size,” etc. However to sort by the speed you don’t have any need to specify the wheel size, so to sort by that just click the button labeled “Robot Output Speed (ft/sec).”
You will need to enable Macros when opening the document to be able to use these sorting buttons.
There is also a “Custom” row at the very bottom, where you can enter a custom Motor RPM, Reduction Type, Driving Size, Driven Size, etc.

Finally, click here to direct-download (safe, as always; don’t worry): http://download409.mediafire.com/34dgo69304wg/gqzi0xapfx4d0wo/VEX+Robot+Speed+Chart.xls
Or click here to go to the download page: [http://www.mediafire.com/?gqzi0xapfx4d0wo

If you don’t understand anything about it, or don’t like something about it. (such as the way I sorted everything by ascending and never by descending) Be sure to let me know, and I could edit it if I think it a good change, or make a special second version for you and others who may want the different chart.

Thank you, feel free to critique it, and hopefully Dave doesn’t mind me posting this… :o

I’m running Office 2007 - works great!

I’ll send one out tomorrow night, my brains pretty fried today. The numbers are starting to look fizzy. :p. I can make an interactive chart on that one to for ease of use if you would like? Thank you for your kind feedback.

Hey Jordan, I don’t mind at all that you posted this. The more the merrier! I do love how you can click on the top and have it automatically sort the stuff, that seems like it will be useful in the future. Although I couldn’t quite get it to work on my computer, even after allowing. Maybe just my computer, it isn’t very nice sometimes. :stuck_out_tongue: Any-who I love the design, awesome job.

OH! and if anyone wants, I can make personalized charts for teams, like put your name/logo on it and make it look really pretty. Then I’ll send it to you guys so you can stick it on your desktop to have and use whenever you need it, so you don’t have to dig around here in a couple months. So feel free to ask! Thank you!

-Dave

Hey everyone,
You guys must be sick on me posting new updated versions, BUT I just finished this one and I think this one is significantly better than my other version, it has both 100 RPM and 160 RPM. It also still has the user specified chart for both speeds, and a key to give you info on how to navigate through everything. I also incorporated a part of the chart where you can calculate arm speed by inputting your gear ratios and the diameter(length) of the arm. The offer still stands for me to customize these charts and send them out to individual teams, so don’t be afraid to ask! Here’s the link: It’s safe, no worries. http://www.mediafire.com/?fhc80xasn8ha327.

Let me know if there are any mistakes so I can fix them right away. Thank you all for your time!

-Dave

Looks great – one problem I noticed. On the User Specified(160 RPM) chart, the “Overall Reduction” column is positioned underneath the 2.75" Wheel column for some reason. I’m not sure if this is a glitch due to my version of Excel verses yours, or if it happened when uploading/downloading, but you may want to check that out on your chart.

That’s it!

~Jordan

That was on purpose. Just to get it out of the way. They are not the same, I just didn’t have anywhere else to put it. But thank you for your kind words!

-Dave

Ohh, now I see it – I wasn’t looking at it right or something and thought for sure that it wasn’t supposed to be there. Now I get it! XP

~Jordan

I have updated my chart, and pretty much all the update has in it was stolen from David. Lol I think this means I need to stop calling it my chart, but I figured people on the Forum would be helping me in whatever way, and I would start putting team logos on the chart somewhere.

David: Let me know if you would like your team logo on the chart, and/or your name written on it since your chart had custom wheel sizes and multiple gear-reductions for the custom calculator. Just email me your logo or whatever at legomindstormsmaniac@gmail.com if you do. Or just scream profanities at me for stealing your ideas and putting them into this chart. (by the way I made the customizable cells orange…)

See? Anyone who helps out will get their name/logo on the pretty chart and be all famous and stuff. (okay maybe not famous)

Anyways here’s the new collaboration chart. http://download1302.mediafire.com/he7hfgg3l3ng/rm66422g3zmri56/VEX+Robot+Speed+Chart.xls (direct download)

The chart is Protected, so if you want to really edit things that I kept locked (everything but the orange cells) you will need the password: Unlock
