New VexIQ will not pair with controller

I am not getting the brain and the controller to pair wirelessly

Hi hectort,

We’re sorry that you have encountered this issue. To help resolve this issue, there are two possible reasons for having this issue.

  1. The Robot Brain and the Controller need to be at the same firmware version in order to ensure there are no issues with them communicating. The best way to ensure they are at the same level is to update them to the latest firmware (if needed). To do this, please visit www.vexiq.com/firmware and download the VEX IQ Firmware Update Utility to your computer if you have not already done so. After this program is installed and running, please connect your Controller to your Robot Brain using the Tether Cable, and connect your Robot Brain to your computer, then turn on the Robot Brain.

If the VEX IQ Firmware Update Utility states that an update is needed, please click the Update All Components button to begin the update process.

  1. Once the update process is complete, or if no update is needed, please look at the Robot Brain LCD Screen in the upper right corner. When the Controller and Robot Brain are connected by Tether, the Tether icon (which looks like a plug as shown below) will be visible. This image is taken from Section 2.2 of the VEX IQ Control System User Guide.

If the Tether Icon is there, this means that the Robot Brain and Controller are successfully communicating with each other and are paired for wireless Radio connection. Please disconnect the Tether Cable and turn off the Robot Brain and Controller.

To test the Radio connection, please first ensure that both the Robot Brain and the Controller have a Radio of the same type (either 900 MHz or 2.4 GHz) installed, and ensure that the radio is fully seated in both the Robot Brain and the Controller. When the Radio is fully seated, there should only be about 7-8mm (a little over a 1/4") visible on both the Controller and the Robot Brain. To insert the Radio into the Controller, you need to first remove the battery door and battery. It can be easier to insert the Radio in the Robot Brain if you press and hold down the red release button on the bottom while inserting it.

Once both Radios are verified to be fully plugged in, please turn on the Robot Brain and Controller. The wireless Radio connection should now connect within a few seconds of turning on.

If you are have any further questions, or if the process above did not work, please contact VEX Technical Support at support@vex.com or by calling +1-903-453-0802 so we can help resolve your issue.
