no programming light on controller

I’ve got the radio shack usb 2 serial adapter, the orange interface box and a serial cable connecting my PC to my controller.

if i turn on my vex while the cable is connected my batter operation light blinks a few times then stays solid. my pgrm status light never turns on.

if i press the orange box button i get nothing.

I have 2 vex controllers and they both work the same

from within the IFI/intelitek loader (which i updated to the newest version (http://www.vexlabs.com/vex-robotics-downloads.shtml)) I can click options → controller verification and it says vex, verification complete.

but i get the std message “make sure power is on and serial cable connected” when i try to download the master code.

I have another thread open ([https://vexforum.com/newreply.php?do=newreply&noquote=1&p=10150) but I no longer believe the problem is in my cabling since i do get the verification message.

if anyone can assist, I would greatly appreciate it.](https://vexforum.com/newreply.php?do=newreply&noquote=1&p=10150) but I no longer believe the problem is in my cabling since i do get the verification message.)

UPDATE:

when running the IFI loader I get an error:

** unknown device id (0)**

when i turn on the vex controller without the orange box plugged in I get no program status light,
when i plug it in with the orange box on I still get no status light, but if i then unplug it the prgrm status light goes solid, and stays there when i plug the cable back in.

either way i still get controller verification and it says **vex com4 115200 **at bottom of window, yet i can not download master file or anything for that matter.

It sounds like you have two wrong com port selected.

Goto → Control Panel → System
Click on the “Hardware” tab and click device manager
Under Ports COM & LPT Look for Prolific USB-To-Serial (COMX)

COMX is your com port.

Set the loader to this port.

I have the right port selected, otherwise it wouldnt verify the controller, which is does. But thank you for the assist.

I’d call IFI then.
