I worked all summer–taught myself CAD and completely designed my robot for Tower Takeover. On the first day of school I find out that my school will no longer we participating in robotics. Are there any other ways I can build my robot and compete??
The easiest way to do that is to ask a parent to register your team and act as your ‘adult mentor’. That way you’ll still be able to go to competitions and compete.
if funding isn’t an issue, you can start your own independent team. But funding your own robotics team gets expensive, so its not an option for everyone.
Most regions have quite a few teams. Surely, there must be an independent team near you you an track down, if you cannot afford to be your own independent team.
I would start by trying to find a region Discord or similar server. If that’s not doable, I would try to attend a few early events and ask around in person. Take some names and contacts and go from there.
Funding your own team may not be as out of the question as you might think. Grants and sponsorships from local companies may be available, if you know where/how to look.
Have your adult team representative adult contact your RECF Regional Support Manager - here is the map interface for finding out how to contact your RECF RSM to put you in touch with other teams in your region: https://www.robotevents.com/support
If you already have the parts needed, since you said you built your bot, you could just take the parts with you when you go independent.
Also try to bring some friends or teammates with you, I can tell you that it gets lonely when you’re by yourself.
