Non-School Based Teams in Michigan Accepting New Members?

So as of recent, I have been looking for a new team to join in the Lansing or Grand Rapids (MI) areas. Does anybody know of any teams in those areas that are accepting new members? The only other requirement is that the team can not be a school-affiliated team.

It’s very difficult to join a team that’s not affiliated with a school, because the majority of non-school teams are independent. Basically speaking, you’ll likely need to partner with someone who’s independent in which you and them will be splitting the funds between eachother. Unless you have 3k laying around, I don’t believe it’s a good idea to join someone who is independant. It would be more efficient to find a public school that does VRC, as they would easily allow those who are motivated to learn STEM.

Team VIRUS is a community team, always open to new members, but Monroe was probably too far of a commute for you!

Thanks @Connor , but unfortunately, I am trying to get AWAY from the school-affiliated teams…

I have actually played you guys several times in the last two seasons… And would have asked to join sooner, but unfortunately, you guys are quite a drive away. Thanks though!

You could always try Map search on robotevents, but that doesn’t filter out independent teams, so that might not help much

It shouldn’t be too hard for REC to add that filter into the map search. Teams that are created or already existing should have a team organization classification of a school or independent.
