Notebook evaluation

After submitting the notebook digitally, when do the judges actually review it? I noticed that updates can still be made after submission, but the judges aren’t required to reevaluate them. I was just wondering when they actually review the notebooks!

I don’t know about other competitions, but for ms Oregon states they did it at 7:00 pm a week before.

For smaller competitions, notebooks are usually reviewed on the morning of the competition, since that’s when most volunteer judges actually arrive, but for larger (think signatures and worlds) events it’ll sometimes be a few weeks before just so that they can process all notebooks and interviews in time.

I’ve judged a lot of notebooks over the past decade, and I can pretty safely say that, unless what you uploaded was a missing innovate award form, any last minute changes you make to The Notebook will have about Zero Effect on your overall score. Notebooks are about your process from start to finish and the majority of your notebook should have been done weeks or months ago.

If you take a look at the notebook rubric, you’re not going to see a place where you earn any points for last minute additions to your notebook. On the other hand, if you have something new and Innovative that is not in your notebook, be sure to bring it up in your interview. It is in the interview that the judges will make their award decisions. Kind of like getting a job, a resume gets you an interview, and the interview is where you sell yourself then close the deal.
