Nothing but Net Vex Match Videos

Hey guys. I was wondering if anyone is going to post more videos of nothing but net competitions such as Singapore, Hawaii, or other tournaments that have occurred?

I put one up a couple days ago, also posted it to the forum, I have more video but the robot in the final match wants to stay confidential until their reveal.

The most recent Hawaii competition had some really bad angles for the audience, and I doubt you’d find anything better than a cell phone video recording. It was really crowded around the field.

Pretty much every robot there had a flywheel except a notable robot that didn’t have a flywheel was Team 394’s robot, which used a design that I assume was inspired by Team 62’s cam wheel. It was a cam wheel shooter. I don’t know much about it since I didnt actually pay attention to how they did myself, but I heard it was fairly consistent, at least on a match-level.

Another thing to note was that I believe only two teams there (one being me) had a shield/blocker thing on their robot for playing defense too. Mine was a board of plexiglas on each side of my robot at the 18 inch limit all the way across the length. It didn’t end up working or being useful at all pretty much. I expected to deflect a lot of balls from blocking really close to the starting tile, but I didn’t risk it, especially after the ruling about the loading zone by Karthik was made a few days before my tournament. I don’t think I counted any balls being deflected at all, to be honest. Thankfully they’ll still have use as decal-covers or something in the future. Maybe I’ll actually be able to deflect a ball with it one day too.

Besides that, the winners (Waialua and Leileihua) both had flywheels. Along with the finalists, (Pearl City and My team) having flywheels as well. I can’t speak of the gear ratios of their flywheels, but my flywheel was almost the same as 8059’s, just that it was lower, so I had trouble getting the distance and height I needed for most of the balls.

Nothing too special besides some defense in that tournament, so don’t feel bad if you cant find any videos of it. In match one of the finals, Pearl City and I decided to try unload all our match load balls from our starting tile before tackling defense against Waialua, who was playing the field. We pushed the field and pushed Waialua out for just a few seconds or so but they had friction wheels and a break, I believe, so my drive died after a bit.

We tried the same strategy in the second round, but with a bit more offense than defense, since Waialua and Leileihua would’ve been expecting the defensive play. That match ended a bit closer than the last, but Waialua and Leileihua won.

In the semifinals against Highlands (394), Pearl City played the long-range shooter while I played the field and pushed out Highlands to the point where they couldn’t shoot at all. Pearl City probably shot all of our balls in besides the preload balls I shot. Heavy defense against a robot that is susceptible to it is a real game winner.

252 points are something special to me! as far as I know is the higher official score of the season.
