November Product Release

We have (3) new products to share:

Mecanum Wheel 4" (4-pack) - P/N: 276-1447 - US$59.99 - CDN$62.99

Mecanum wheels allow savvy robot designers to create drivetrains capable of moving in any direction using a standard chassis shape. Simply power each wheel with a different motor and by changing the directions the wheels spin get your robot to move in different directions!

Competition Cortex Wire Retaining Clips - P/N: 276-2173 - $3.99

These wire retaining clips are upgrades for the standard Cortex Microcontroller clips and are designed to secure wires in a competitive robotics environment.

8-32 x 0.500" Setscrew (32-pack) - P/N: 276-2385 - $4.99

These 8-32 x 0.125" setscrews fit in VEX Shaft Collars. Use them as replacements or spare parts.

Our setscrews tend to disappear into another dimension, so this is going to make a lot of useless shaft collars usable again.

Note: the shaft collars use an 8-32 thread, so in a pinch ANY VEX 8-32 screw can be used to replace the setscrew.

 Mecanum wheels! I didn’t think they would come out so soon. They look good.

OH MY GOD! I’m screaming like a little girl right now! THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU! I never thought that we would get these so soon. I’m ordering these as soon as possible.

Wow this is amazing! Need to get a set of those wheels asap…also I love how vex responds to their consumers so well. Having the MCC clips and the shaft collar inserts so quickly is a wonderful convenience!

Hallelujah! I honestly never thought vex would come out with mecanum wheels!

I will definately be redesigning my drive train if I get a set of the new wheels!!!

Honestly I’m speechless right now. But I do have a question. How wide are the wheels at both the base (by the axle hole) and the top (by the rollers). Anyway thank you so much for these.

I just posted Q&A to see if/when the Mecanums are VRC Gateway legal, since the announcement doesn’t mention it either way.

I don’t have this dimension on hand (at home), but you can download the CAD file for these wheels off the product page.

I feel the same way!

The YouTube video was great and I just ordered them. They should arrive on Thursday - I can’t wait!

I would think that it would be because it is not VEXPro. It is a good idea to check though before people start placing there $60 orders.

It’s a wheel, it’s on the same page as all the other 4" wheels, it should be legal. We plan to order some tomorrow, however, it’s not going to be a direct swap for the omni wheels we currently use as it’s quite a bit wider. Here’s a comparisons with 4" omni wheels.

Those mechanum wheels are really awesome! But a little too much for our team at the moment (following those new linear motion kits). Each kit contains two of each orientation (left-handed and right-handed wheels, if you will), correct?

It looks like the new clips will replace the old clips, as they have the same pronged plastic clippy part that goes into the slot next to the wire ports. The page says they’re upgrades, not replacements. Is that accurate?

We’ve just been buying replacement set screws from McMaster-Carr, but it’s nice to be able to buy one more essential from VEX.
And those set screws in the picture are definitely not .5". If they were, they’d be couplers. They look to be .125"

im also the fan of the MECANUM!
too bad its fatter, so we cant do a “quick N dirty” wheel swap
and $60… :frowning:

$60 for a set of four mecanum wheels is pretty reasonable IMHO.
And, yes, the thickness of the wheels does lead to some interesting design considerations and choices.

It does not look like you can put a metal bar lock on these wheels. If anyone has tried please tell. I may try it later in CAD. Unless they already have a metal insert like gears?

Wow, these are awesome!

I might consider using them next year! They are a great product!

Thanks all

Remember, it’s $59.99 for 4 wheels, unlike most VEX wheels which sell in packs of 2.

There is no metal insert, but the large depth of the axle hole provides more torque transfer than a thinner profile wheel or gear. You probably don’t need the metal insert.
