I’ve been avoiding this topic for a little while here.
Yes please do, I don’t see why you would ever not have the animation challenge.
That’s a question for the animation creators (just like it is for the GDC every year), please don’t rob them of the opportunity of thinking about this on their own by mandating an object. This is convergent thinking here, otherwise known as being creative.
Many have suggested an app design and/or software challenge. I obviously like the idea but we need to be more specific on how this could be done. I see a few ideas (or prompts if you will):
- App to find VEX teams in your area
- App for team scouting
- App to aid in robot design/building
- App to share content (photos, video, audio, w/e) basically a social app
I would allow both Android and iOS submissions, in both cases having a tablet & phone format done well would be worth something. For this to happen judges would need an Android phone, an Android tablet, an iPod Touch or iPhone and an iPad. Shouldn’t be too hard, I have all of that minus the iPad (which I wouldn’t be against buying if I were in a judge’s position). This consideration may or may not be an issue.
I LOVE the new part challenge. I really do. Do it! Winner gets to talk seriously with JVN about making it a reality. That’s one way to get the community interested. -Cody

But don’t limit it to just parts, make it open to software , robot carriage cases, battery holders, mobile apps, scouting software, or any type of related to product to make the competition experience better.

I wanted to take a minute and thank everyone who contributed to this discussion. We are currently working on the 2015 Challenges and some of your suggestions are being included in our planning.
I have a quick question about the challenges: Who are the judges? Do people at the company that sponcers them judge them?

Is there a list of next years’ online challenges or am I missing something?
They read them aloud at world’s today. Design a new part was one of them.
Two of them were discussed at World Championship today. I hope to have them posted next week. (I’m a little busy right now…)
