Hi everyone!
Are any of you also planning on doing an online EDN, at least for the time being? If so, how are you doing it?
Thanks in advance, and stay safe!

What my team is doing, is putting everything into a shared google doc.
Same here.

I’ve always thought writing your engineering notebook on a google doc and transfer it onto the actual book afterwards is a better idea. This allows edits to happen easily, and everyone can be able to work on it at the same time
You should start with the bound book and use that the entire season. Higher marks are given for that vs print and paste into the notebook.
Share a google doc, and then write as you go. That’s the raw material (I believe) judges want to see. Where you messed up, how you fixed it. I would not write it afterwards to edit anything except for formatting and grammar mechanics. I’m not a judge though. I think @Gear_Geeks is though, so maybe ask them.
And also, if you write as you go, that’s a lot less work for later. Happy notebooking!
I think it depends on the purpose of your EN. If it is to just share info with your team and keep them informed, then do what works for you. If it is to possibly win Design Awards, then you should print out pages and tape/glue them into a bound notebook. As @JustARedneckEngineer points out, it is really easy to go back and edit on-line information and make it perfect - but that is not the point of an EN. This is your “invention” book with the good, bad, and ugly. I always tell my team not to obliterate anything you’ve written, you may come back and realize it was genius.
I would suggest doing an online notebook, especially if one member is able to bring home parts from your school but the other team mates cannot come over to build. If you guys (and gals) are meeting on a regular basis, then I would suggest a written notebook. If you do an online notebook, make sure to copy down the information into a physical notebook.
My team for the time being is using a shared google doc to write things down since all of our robotics things, including the journal, are at school. We write what we would exactly put in the notebook, helping us keep our ideas organized for the time being.
