For this year, I am trying to incorporate more 3D CAD in my robotics class. I have several students with iPads and the accompanying pencil. I plan on using Onshape, and I was wondering if anyone has any experience using this setup for assembling robots. My experience is all with a mouse and keyboard on a laptop, so if anyone has experience here and can offer some advice/recommendations, that would be great.
I often use Onshape on my iPad, so I can help.
First, I do strongly recommend using a computer, however for large assemblies, lower tier computers don’t run well (such as a Chromebook).
Mobile Onshape works very similarly to the browser version, but familiarity with how the browser version works is helpful. I don’t use an Apple Pencil, and I don’t think that it would be too helpful, the finger support in Onshape is great.

Hope this helps!
I used Onshape on iPads back in 2020 when my school was virtual. It worked reasonably well, although we weren’t trying to model full robots. Here’s a document I made that may help you figure out the iPad interface. We were only making Assemblies, not Parts, and some things may have changed.
