<SG6> Robots may not intentionally grasp, grapple or attach to any Field Elements or the opposing
Mobile Goals.
Would it be legal to push an opposing mobile goal into the opposing five point zone using a concave portion of the robot? I realize this sounds like a bad idea, but it would help to gain strength points. Does anyone have ideas about this rule?
It seems that this would be legal, because the game manual says that refs are to enforce the rules as they are written. Since SG6 does not prevent this, it is by default legal. (Unless there are other rules preventing this, which I don’t think there are.)
Even if it was illegal, it is only a DQ if it is match affecting meaning it caused the other team to lose. Obviously, if you are scoring points for them, it will not be the cause of them losing unless they were about to stack cones on it and you took it away from them and put it in their 5 point zone.
In addition, for many rules (including SG6), the rule states:
This can apply even to violations that are not match-affecting.
(Of course, in this case, pushing the mobile goal with a concave surface is legal, as long as you don;t “grasp, grapple, or attach to” the opponent’s mobile goal.)
Agreed. If you are in a situation near the end of the day and you have not been warned but needed some SP, I think you are probably safe in picking up the mogo and scoring it for the other team, even if you cross into the 10 point zone and give them a 20 point score with the mogo. There is no cause for disablement and since it is your first time and it is not match affecting (meaning it was not something that lead to the other team losing) I think you would probably be OK. You might want to talk to the head ref ahead of time if you think this is a strategy you might want to employ and make sure he or she has the same understanding.
It does not matter how right you may be, but it does matter what the head ref thinks is right.
