What will be the procedure for the Parade of Nations? Will it be like in 2019, where only Excellence Award winners participated? Or prior to that when each team sent 1 representative (My Choice)?
I have no clue, I would guess because of covid it might be like 2019, just so there are less people.
Dude, “I have no clue” and yet 60 more characters of more useless text. Be helpful or keep your fingers to yourself. “Hey need help for a 4 bar linkage” I don’t know how to do that but maybe if you Google it. “Having a Problem in PROS with the GPS” Don’t have one of them, but I bet it will be cool when it works. “Building an IQ Fling, how many rubber bands?” I only do V5 so we would just add another motor.
/sigh
I did give a somewhat educated guess however. Next time I’ll just skip the “I have no clue”
Nobody will know until RECF releases it. My (educated) guess is that it will be like previous years with one rep from each team. With them not requiring masks from 800 teams (probably more than 3200 students alone), I’d assume that they wouldn’t be worried about that. Maybe they would just say if you would like to participate, wear a mask?
And that was a reply that was worth posting?
/sigh
Every post has an audience and purpose (including this one).
Yes, it was worth posting and most likely influenced the audience with the intended purpose.
What’s this Parade of Nations? The detailed agenda page doesn’t mention it, I don’t see anything related in the “Whats Worlds Like” thread. Is it for IQ only?
It was just my way of saying that I might be wrong, but, here is what an educated guess would be. Can we just be done with this?
It’s part of the Worlds Opening Ceremony. Representatives from every attending country walk in with their country’s flag, sort of like Olympics opening ceremonies. In 2019 I think for US at least it was just State/Region excellence award winners, but not 100% sure on that. I seem to remember the other countries having quite a few kids with each flag, so may have been different criteria for them. Also, that was back in 2019, and lots has crowded out my memory since then…
In the email we received last night, there is a link to an application form. (I don’t know if everyone received the invites or not). The application states “Each team that is selected will be invited to have 1-5 (dependent on country) representatives walk in the ceremony.” There is no information given on selection criteria other than your availability and the ability to “bring the excitement, culture and unique characteristics of their region, territory or country to our Opening Ceremonies” (not sure they can judge that by the application)
Other than that info, I can’t add much other than I’d infer they are keeping it to a manageable size.
FYI… I looked over the VRC team list and counted 25 unique countries attending
Was your team an Excellence Award winner?
One of them did win an excellence award ( VRC MS), but the invite/application was simply addressed to a “top competitor in your region this season”. The application is for all the different levels and allows us to enter the team number. We didn’t know if it was only for that team, or for both of out attending teams (one VRC HS)
Now that I think about it… we only received one email. We normally receive duplicates (one for each team). Makes sense to assume that it was sent for the excellence award.
So is there like an application to try to be in the parade of nations? Or is it invitation only. We are the teamwork winner for Utah, so definitely a top competitor and might be eligible.

Bro, we are dominant in Georgia WE should get an invite. We are number one in our state and won most of the awards in Georgia relating to teamwork and skills, and we also won US open, the only Georgia team to do so in this years Us open.
That’s the same story with us except our school wouldn’t let us go to US open. I wonder how they get invites
We received one email, which I suspect is for our Excellence Award team, but am not sure. The email isn’t clear & I have reached out to the RECF contact that the email came from. Hoping to have some clarity and will share it here if I get some.
Thank you, we would love to participate and any more info might help.
So I have made 3 phone calls, left 2 messages and an unanswered email on this topic. The deadline is in less than 2 hrs I think.
@DanMantz can you shed any light on who is invited and what a “top team in your region” is? For multi-team orgs, it is hard for us to know who can participate and who can not. For now, I suppose I will register all our teams before the deadline and let them sort it out later.
