Passive Hang

My team is working on a hang right now and want to make it passive with our lady brown. We are not really sure how to approach this though and wanted to know easy ways to create a passive hang. Should we use string or is there another way to create an effective passive hang. Thanks

There isnt really a way to make a “passive hang” per to say, but if you are looking for an easy level 1 climb, id recommend just doing something like this

Thank you for sharing this information…

The 2013 FIRST Robotics Competition game Ultimate Ascent had many robots that utilized a passive hang. Check out some of those designs for potential scalable ideas.

Your still able to make a passive climb, by making a wedge that elevates and hook’s on when you ram into the ladder bar, it has been done before in over under but you would still need a piston to deploy it so you don’t get stuck when trying to drive under it normally.

Example of how it is used in last years game

There are other ways. You can make two small arms that pivot close to the ladybrown, then make so kind of small hook or ramp so you can use the momentum of the robot to get up onto the first rung, then you can use some latex tubing or string that is attached to the ladybrown and the hang so that when the ladybrown is extended the hang will be pulled up also.

Make 2 hooks connected with string that pop up when the lady brown extends out. I believe 5956B’s reveal has this.
