People who went to worlds before, how was it?

My school have won a ticket to the worlds, and I am given an opportunity to go. However, I’m not sure about going because the comp is two weeks before my final exam, and I’ll be unable to take May SATs. Also, the trip is very pricy, around 8000 dollars in total for international flights, hotels and everything. I’m very hesitant on my decision because it’s two important priorities crashing. I’m taking IBDP, and this final exam will determine my predicted grade which will play crucial role in university application. But going to worlds is now or never opportunity— since seniors have official IB final exams when the worlds happen. So I want to hear from people who have went to worlds and ask how was it like. How was your experience? Is it really worth it?

Just curious, which part of the world are you at?

8000 per student for a worlds trip sounds excessive.

I mean, I am at a country that will need to take a 22 to 25hrs flight to worlds, but it is still way lesser than 8000.

In any case, if it doesn’t clash with your actual IBDP exam, and if you can afford the money, then do go for worlds.
It might be a once in a life time opportunity for you.
And so far, worlds experience have been pretty life changing for many students.

If nothing else, the opening and closing ceremonies are definitely worth it. I mean obviously if you can’t go then you can’t go but if you really do have a choice then go. The game reveal is definitely better in person.

I’m living in China right now. The flight itself is not even that expensive, but there’s other stuffs adding up.
Anyways, thank you for your reply! I hope I can make it there:)

totally agree, im from singapore, the entire cost for one person is around 2549.49 USD … and we are going to a ranch. bro what currency are you in?

and if it really is 8000 no its not worth it, and plus I think that if your exams that have a big impact on college, your exams matter more if you are applying to a place OUTSIDE the US (Britain, Switzerland, Australia, etc). If you already have a good SAT score (>1530) AND you are applying to the US, then I would say go to worlds. But double check on the price. however, idk if you can even put it in your college apps since you are a senior.

Also keep in mind that you can do super score SAT, by combining your highest reading and writing with your highest math.

there’s your free $5 college counselling.
